America consumes a quarter of the world's oil but sits on only 3% of its proven reserves. St Germain foresees that we simply cannot sustain our current rate of consumption without facing serious consequences. And he has said that he cannot continue to sponsor America if we do not break our dependence on foreign oil. It's clear that we need to find alternative sources of energy as soon as possible.
A world without oil is hard to imagine, but some analysts are confident that it can happen in less than 14 years. Right now there are companies that have developed the technology to successfully replace oil for energy use. These Free-Power Technologies will enable us meet our energy needs with wind, sun, hydroelectric, geothermal, lunar (which is power from waves and ocean currents) and biomass, eliminating the need for foreign oil.
Just because it's not happening in the United States doesn't mean it's not happening elsewhere in the world! It has hardly been covered by our media, but Sweden has announced that it will become the first country in the world to stop using oil by 2020. Sweden is poised to become the first modern society to successfully break its dependence on fossil fuels! Nine million people will soon be living entirely on renewable energy! No more gasoline-run cars -- and no more oil-heated homes. Only 32% of Sweden?s energy comes from oil -- down from 77% in 1970. And almost all of its heating has been converted to methods generated by geothermal energy. Even more ambitious is the 114km2 island of Samsoe off the coast of Denmark. As of 2002 its electricity was completely generated by non oil sources and as of 2008 all of its energy needs will be met by renewable resources. Samsoe is showing us a glimpse of what the world can be like.
